COUGHS, FLUS AND FEVERS

Colds and FlusWholistic practitioners such as homeopaths, chiropractic doctors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, nutritionists, herbologists and others, if they are well read in the philosophy of health and illness, all agree that colds and flus are not really infections from the outer world, but rather they are a process of house-cleaning. Ridding the body of toxins is a necessary event, a spring-cleaning, so to speak. This is no fun, but it is good for you.

If a lot of cleansing is needed then a fever will ensue. This raising of the temperature is evidence of an awakened immune system that uses temperature to eliminate unwanted bacteria and viruses. Inevitably the person feels refreshed and cleansed when the fever and cold have run their natural course.

If we suppress colds, flus and fevers with aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen and anti-pyretics, year after year, we stop the cleansing process. This is harmful to the body if done over and over again. Where does everything go that would have come out of the nose, lungs and perspiration, if we put a chemical cork in it?

When our sinuses fill we are storing mucus in our sinus cavities before we empty them by blowing our noses. The nasal discharge was in our blood before the walls of the sinus cavities pulled the material out of the blood and filled the cavity. If we take antihistamines we stop this filtering of the blood.

We begin to cough up phlegm from our lungs, and that phlegm came originally from our blood (the lungs filter the blood just like the sinuses do), and we respond by taking a cough suppressive pharmaceutical, where will all the phlegm go that would have come up from the lungs? Avoidance of pharmaceuticals that suppress these symptoms is not a minor issue in health care, but actually the most important thing we can do to stay healthy, next to avoiding vaccinations.

This is why when wholistic practitioners begin to unsuppress the patient, a cold or flu will soon ensue. This means the treatment was a correct one. The cold or flu must be treated wholistically, allowing the process to do what it is intended to do…to cleanse. Later in the process of getting well, a person who hasn't had a fever in a while will get a fever. This is good. Fevers can remain at 103.5 for 3 days in a row before there is a need for concern. A spike to 105 can be well tolerated too. For anything over those parameters we recommend antibiotics, but only for long enough to reduce the fever to a tolerable level and never for the full 10 days as the pharmaceutical manufacturers would have us believe.

Give this issue considerable thought. Getting well is for those who have the courage to tolerate some discomfort. Those who must run for relief at every discomfort for every ailment end up severely suppressed and on the verge of serious illness. Isn't it strange how the answer to getting well can be so simple?

Many people are unable to get colds, flus and fevers anymore and they must be helped to begin the cleansing process. This can be a very uncomfortable period but try to enter into it with enthusiasm! Call when you are angry with your practitioner. He or she will coach you through the tough times.

My Past Experience As A Health Care Provider

Cyrus Wood-Thomas, D.C., D.N.B.H.E.

Doctor of Chiropractic,
Diplomat of the National Board of Homeopathic examiners

Medical Doctor of Homeopathy (India)

Dr. Cyrus ThomasIt all began when I was eight years old and I asked my father to buy me a series of small children's books on how the parts of the body work. At thirteen I became aware of macrobiotics cooking and realized that most people were Sanpaku, (in a state of ill health due to diet). I began yoga studies with my mother at this time as well.

Later, as a philosophy major in college, studying at the Sorbonne in Paris, and having been treated by a combination acupuncturist/aikido-master/masseur; a desire for personal health above all other studies, led inevitably to returning to the U.S.to complete undergraduate courses in pre-med.

I began a study of homeopathy in 1978 at the same time I began chiropractic college in Los Angeles. By the time I graduated in chiropractic, four years later, I was teaching homeopathy.

The four year course of study for chiropractic uses all the same texts as are used in medical school. The only difference being that extra courses in anatomy and physiology are taken in place of learning the use of allopathic pharmacy, which homeopaths are unlikely to want to use anyway.

I then worked in a multidisciplinary, holistic clinic in Miami, Florida for two years, treating all patients with nutrition, chiropractic and homeopathy. We had many patients from Europe. For the next ten years I operated my own five-doctor holistic facility in Jacksonville , Florida. I did 1400 television programs on holistic medicine and coordinated the efforts of homeopaths, acupuncturists, chiropractors, allopaths (medical doctors) and massage therapists. I became the president of the Chiropractic Academy of Homeopathy and an examiner for the National Board. In my own practice I performed hundreds of blood tests, thousands of x-rays and MRIs, and a multitude of physical examinations and neurological tests. I rarely recommend x-rays now, however, due to the damage they create.

Over the last thirty years I have studied with the most renowned homeopaths in the world, including Catherine Coulter, Eizayaga, Bill Gray, Roger Morrison and various homeopaths from India. I have an advanced standing with the NCH, a Medical Doctorate of Homeopathy from India and am a Diplomat and an examiner of the National Board of Homeopathic Examiners.

Currently in practice, I practice chiropractic, nutrition and homeopathy exclusively because it is the most expedient way for me to spend my time. It is also what I love to do the most. I have been practicing for thirty years (as of 2007). I hope these sciences will help you
